Dutch fleet operator Willemsen-de Koning orders 80 eVito Tourer

Wensink Automotive, Willemsen-de Koning and Mercedes-Benz Vans signed a contract for the delivery of 80 eVito Tourer vehicles. The fully electric fleet is used for group transports in Utrecht and Rotterdam. Among other things, the locally emission-free eVito Tourer will bring school students in and around Utrecht to school and thus replace the previously used vehicles with combustion engines.

Mercedes‑Benz will deliver a total of 130 Citaro hybrid low-floor city buses to the Romanian capital, Bucharest. The technology of the ‘Bus of the Year 2019′ combines economy and ecology: depending on the operation, the hybrid module reduces fuel consumption depending on the operation and therefore emissions by up to 8.5%.

European EV registrations grow 35.6% in second quarter of 2019

In the second quarter of 2019, the EU new-car market shifted further towards petrol vehicles. Petrol now represents nearly 60% of all new passenger car registrations, while demand for diesel continued to fall during the second quarter. Electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECV) accounted for 2.4% of total new car sales across the region, while all alternatively-powered vehicles (APV) combined made up 9.2% of the EU market.

Volkswagen AG and Northvolt AB have created a 50/50 joint venture to build a factory for lithium-ion batteries. Construction of the production facility is scheduled to start in Salzgitter (Lower Saxony) in 2020. Start of production is planned for the end of 2023/beginning of 2024. The initial annual output is to be 16 GWh.
